Michigan's high school football playoffs wasted little time producing major surprises.

Belleville, one of the state's most recognizable football powers, was eliminated in the opening round Friday, Oct. 30, falling 28-14 to Dearborn Fordson in Division 1.

The result was one of several notable developments during the first weekend of the 2026 Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoffs, which began with 288 teams competing across eight 11-player divisions and two eight-player divisions.

Grandville defeated Howell 38-30 in another significant Division 1 result, while Grand Ledge edged Rockford 34-31 and Rochester slipped past Macomb Dakota 22-21.

The postseason also produced a major development away from the field.

Grand Rapids Catholic Central, initially removed from the Division 5 playoffs, was reinstated following a reversal by the MHSAA. The Cougars are now scheduled to face Comstock Park on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with the winner advancing to the district championship round.

The next stage of the postseason arrives Nov. 6-7, when the 11-player classifications compete for district championships and the eight-player divisions contest regional finals.

The eight-player state championships will be played Nov. 21 at the Superior Dome in Marquette, followed by the eight 11-player championship games Nov. 27-28 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Here is the updated look at Michigan's 2026 high school football playoff brackets, opening-round results and upcoming matchups.
