The No. 3 Alexandria Area Cardinals (28-3) defeated the No. 2 Totino-Grace Eagles (23-6) 73-65 in the 2025 Minnesota (MSHSL) high school boys basketball state tournament Class 3A semifinals on Thursday at Williams Arena.

Alexandria senior Chase Thompson finished with 33 points, including 22 in the second half. He also had 12 rebounds and five assists.

The Eagles outscored the Cardinals 22-7 in the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 35-31 lead into halftime, but Thompson and the Cardinals controlled the second half. Mason Witt finished with 25 points for Alexandria.

Dothan Ijadimbola led Totino-Grace with 17 points.

Totino-Grace was hoping for its fourth consecutive state title, but instead the Cardinals will play to win their first in school history on Saturday at Williams Arena against Mankato East.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

Totino-Grace wins the opening tip and we're underway.

Mason Witt with two step-back 3-point shots to start this one. The Cardinals lead 11-5 with 14 minutes remaining in the first half.

Alexandria leads 20-13 with 10 minutes remaining. Witt is up to 11 points. Chase Thompson with nine points and six rebounds.

Totino-Grace goes on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 24 with six minutes remaining in the first half. The Eagles hit three 3-point shots in that stretch.

The Eagles run is up to 20-2 with two minutes remaining, and they lead 33-26. Thompson the only Cardinal to score during the run.

HALFTIME: Totino-Grace 35, Alexandria 31

The Eagles dominated the final nine minutes of the half to take a four-point lead into halftime. Dothan Ijadimbola leads Totino-Grace with 11 points.

Mason Witt leads the Cardinals with 16 points with 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point shot. Overall, Alexandria is struggling from the field. They're shooting 11-of-31 from the field.

SECOND HALF UPDATES

The second half is underway.

Chase Thompson with seven points in the opening three minutes of the second half. Alexandria leads 41-39.

Ten minutes remain and Totino-Grace leads 49-48.

Thompson's strong second-half continues. He's up to 15 points in the half and 26 in the game. The Cardinals lead 56-54 with 7:35 remaining.

3:28 remains and Alexandria leads 66-62. Ijadimbola with two layups to keep the Eagles in range of the Cardinals.

The score is still the same with 1:51 remaining. Both teams with turnovers in the final minutes.

Thompson hits two free throws to give Alexandria a 70-63 lead with 49 seconds remaining.

The Cardinals hit their free throws down the stretch, and they'll come away with the win.

FINAL: Alexandria 73, Totino-Grace 65

Thompson finishes with 33 points and 12 rebounds, indluding 22 points in the second half.

Ijadimbola led Totino-Grace with 17 points.
