Predictions On Southern Nevada's Top Week 0 Football Games

As a new high school football season kicks off in Southern Nevada, cautious excitement is in the air. The offseason unrest that caused the NIAA to be turned on its head when 30 Clark County School District schools secded hangs over the action like a dark cloud. Still, the games have arrived and for those four quarters all the enjoyment of Friday night lights will be on display. There are plenty of great games to start things off and here is where all the offseason hype gets put to the test.
Mater East (0-0) vs. Faith Lutheran (0-0)
Two teams with high aspirations for the upcoming campaign thanks to the return of several key skill players. Mater East has put its faith in 6-foot-5 quarterback James Monaghan IV, who led Knights to playoffs last season. Faith Lutheran's pass-catch combo of Dominick Folino and Jaden Mason should be able to trade points in this spot.
Prediction: Faith Lutheran 34, Mater East 30
Coronado (0-0) vs. Centennial (0-0)
The Falcons have been quite the offseason buzz team. Here's the perfect spot to justify the hype. QB Blake Nadler makes his debut and has a talented cast of receivers to work with. Coronado has gotten a lot of "they'll be better this year" talk this summer. Something has to give. We'll side with the Centennial offense to be the most trustworthy proposition on the field right now.
Prediction: Centennial 40, Coronado 22
Palo Verde (0-0) vs. Desert Pines (0-0)
Three of Palo Verde's losses last season were by less than a touchdown. That can't happen again if this program is to improve on last year's 3-7 finish. There's returning production all over the roster, but the Panthers have to prove they can win the close ones. And that's what we're expecting in this one - a dramatic fourth quarter - the winner of which jumpstarts a potential rebound campaign.
Prediction: Palo Verde 25, Desert Pines 21

Sierra Vista (0-0) vs. Desert Oasis (0-0)
The "Bell Game" is a fun way to kick things off. The Mountain Lions won 23-16 last season, but it's the Diamondbacks who have been a mild buzz team this offseason. Desert Oasis has a new face at quarterback. Same can't be said for Sierra Vista, which has experience in several key skill spots. This looks like another close game between the two rivals.
Prediction: Desert Oasis 21, Sierra Vista 20
Green Valley (0-0) vs Foothill (0-0)
Two teams with a ton of optimism due to a bevy of returning skill position production meet in one of the more important games of the week. Foothill QB Ryder Dobbs piloted his team to a state playoffs berth last season. He should fine opening against a Green Valley defense that must improve after allowing nearly 30 points per game last season. The Gators have a serious set of skill talent, so they appear ready to trade points in this spot.
Prediction: Foothill 38, Green Valley 30
