Memorable ALDS Moments
Yankees-Mariners, Game 5
Ken Griffey Jr. scored from first base on Edgar Martinez's two-run double off Jack McDowell in the 11th inning to complete an 0-2 series comeback.
Red Sox-Indians, Game 5
Making a surprise relief appearance in an 8-8 slugfest, Pedro Martinez struck out eight in six hitless innings to help Boston complete an 0-2 series comeback.
White Sox-Mariners, Game 3
With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Carlos Guillen's safety squeeze scored Rickey Henderson and sent the Mariners to the ALCS.
A's-Yankees, Game 3
Derek Jeter redirected an errant relay throw with a flip to home plate, nailing Jeremy Giambi and kickstarting the Yankees' comeback from an 0-2 series deficit.
Red Sox-A's, Game 3
Pinch-hitter Trot Nixon hit a mammoth two-run homer off Rich Harden in the bottom of the 11th inning as Boston staved off elimination and went on to advance to the ALCS.
A's-Twins, Game 1
Frank Thomas powered the A's with two solo home runs in a 3-2 victory at the Metrodome. Thomas went deep in the second inning and again in the top of the ninth to provide what would be the game-winning run. Oakland went on to sweep Minnesota and advance to the ALCS.
Yankees-Indians, Game 2
Joba Chamberlain had been almost unhittable since his August call-up, but he finally succumbed to a swarm of insects that invaded Cleveland's Jacobs Field in the late innings of Game 2. After snuffing out an Indians rally in the seventh inning, Chamberlain was distracted enough by the bugs in the eighth to allow a walk and two wild pitches that helped the Indians tie the game. Cleveland went on to win 2-1 and finished off the Yankees in Game 4.
Red Sox-Angels, Game 4
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the game knotted at 2-2, Red Sox rookie shortstop Jed Lowrie smacked a single through the right side of the infield to score Jason Bay and send Boston to the ALCS. It was Boston's 12th win over the Angels in the last 13 games.
