D-Backs interim manager Gibson has strong shot at retaining job

Diamondbacks interim manager Kirk Gibson has an excellent chance to keep his job for next year. His gung-ho style is very much appreciated by his bosses and contrasts with the man he replaced, A.J. Hinch, whose thoughtful approach was never accepted by old-time scouts.

The Diamondbacks plan to have a GM search, but interim GM Jerry DiPoto, who's been a finalist for multiple GM jobs eleswhere, is also believed to have a pretty good chance to retain his title. Former Padres GM Kevin Towers and Yankees scouting director Damon Oppenheimer are also considered candidates for the job in Arizona.
