Varitek returning to Red Sox

Jason Varitek is returning to the Boston Red Sox with a one-year, $2 million deal, SI.com has learned.

Varitek, the Red Sox captain, batted .232 with just seven home runs and 16 RBIs in 39 games in 2010. Boston already lost one catcher this offseason when Victor Martinez signed with the Detroit Tigers.

Varitek, 38, has spent his entire 14-year career with the Red Sox and helped lead them to two World Series championships.
