K-Rod to become free agent at year's end

Francisco Rodriguez and the Brewers have concept in place for him to waive his $17.5M vesting option that would have kicked in if he finished 55 games this season. The two sides are just working on final details that will allow him to become a free agent at season's end.

The Mets, who traded K-Rod to the Brewers on Tuesday, never approached Rodriguez's new agent, Scott Boras, about agreeing to waive the option in exchange for money, although they had approached his previous agent, Paul Kinzer, about a possible extension, but talks didn't pan out
