The Toronto Blue Jays claimed left-hander Brad Mills off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, the team announced in a press release on Thursday.

Mills, 24, made 12 starts this season for Brewers Triple A affiliate Nashville, recording a 1.56 ERA and 4-2 record, before a trade in June somewhat famously sent him to Oakland for $1.

Mills was designated for assignment after posting a 4.41 ERA with 14 strikeouts and seven walks over three starts with the Athletics.

Toronto drafted Mills in the fourth round in 2007.

The Blue Jays opened Thursday four games back of Baltimore in the American League East and two and a half games back in the wild card race.
