Joe Nathan has 27 saves this season for Detroit, but he also has a 5.36 ERA. The other main cogs in Detroit's bullpen include Joba Chamberlain, Phil Coke, Al Alburquerque and trade acquisition Joakim Soria, who's currently on the disabled list with an oblique strain.

The Tigers have gone 12-12 in August and have slipped in the playoff race. Entering play on Tuesday, Detroit was 1.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central and a half game behind the Seattle Mariners for the final Wild Card spot.
