Orioles third baseman Manny Machado underwent successful knee surgery Wednesday, according to David Wilson of MLB.com.

Machado had the torn medial patellofemoral ligament in his right knee repaired, roughly two weeks after he fell to the ground on Aug. 11 after an awkward swing against the Yankees. Machado will remain in Los Angeles, where the surgery was performed, for the next three weeks.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said in the report that he isn't sure whether the 22-year-old, an All-Star last year, will go straight to Sarasota, Fla., after the rehab in Los Angeles or rejoin the team for a series vs. the Red Sox that begins Sept. 19.

The recovery time is four to six weeks. The Orioles are in first place in the AL East.
