The Los Angeles Dodgers designated shortstop Carlos Triunfel for assignment Monday to clear roster room for prospect Joc Pederson.

The team tweeted out the move while also announcing the reinstatement of pitcher Chris Perez from the disabled list.

The Dodgers now have 10 days to release, waive or trade Triunfel, or place him back on the club's 40-man roster.

Triunfel was once a highly touted infield prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization after being signed as a 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic. The Dodgers claimed him on waivers at the beginning of the 2014 season.

Triunfel hit .133 with one home run in 16 plate appearances with Los Angeles this season. He spent most of his time at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he hit .223 with four home runs and 40 runs batted in.

Pederson led the Pacific Coast League this season with 33 home runs. He made his debut for the National League West-leading Dodgers on Monday against the Nationals, striking out to end the game won by the Nats 6-4.
