Indians' Aviles out with concussion

CLEVELAND (AP) Indians utilityman Mike Aviles is sidelined because of a concussion.

Aviles was injured in the first inning Monday when he attempted to make a diving catch of a fly ball in right field. He remained in the game, but misjudged a ball two innings later and was removed with a sore neck.

Manager Terry Francona said Aviles is a ''little foggy'' and was sent home by team doctors after being checked at the ballpark the last couple of days. The Indians don't need to place Aviles on the seven-day disabled list because the rosters are expanded, but he'll have to pass the concussion protocol tests before playing again.

Aviles is batting .245 with five homers, 33 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 97 games.
