New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner could return to the lineup for the second game of the day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, reports MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Gardner has missed the past five games with an abdominal strain. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said earlier in the week that he didn't know when Gardner was going to return to the lineup.

Gardner is batting .269 with 16 home runs, 56 RBI and 19 stolen bases for the Yankees, who are 10.5 games behind the Orioles in the A.L. East. The Yankees also trail the Detroit Tigers by four games for the AL's final wild card berth.

The Yankees could also be without shortstop Derek Jeter and third baseman Chase Headley for Friday's contest after both were hit by pitches during Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
