The Brewers' Ryan Braun will undergo a procedure on his right thumb on Thursday in Los Angeles, just days after Milwaukee's season comes to an end, Tom Haudricourt of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported this weekend.

The thumb issue has proven to be somewhat of a chronic issue for the five-time All-Star. Braun initially suffered a nerve injury at the base of the right thumb last year and it's remained a lingering pain this season, starting as far back as spring training, according to Haudricourt.

The Brewers had opted for Braun to not undergo the procedure last offseason but they believe now it's not too invasive that it won't prevent him from returning for spring training in 2015. The surgery involves freezing off damaged tissue and, according to the report, has never been performed before on a thumb.

Milwaukee finishes its season on Sunday with its final game vs. the Cubs.
