Nationals hire Bob Miller as assistant GM

WASHINGTON (AP) The Washington Nationals have hired Bob Miller as vice president and assistant general manager.

The club announced the move Monday.

The 50-year-old Miller spent the past nine seasons with the Cincinnati Reds.

Before that, he worked with Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo for seven years in the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization.

Notes: The Nationals picked up RHP Eric Fornataro on waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. The reliever had a 4.66 ERA in eight appearances in the majors last season. His career ERA in the minors is 3.90.
