Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion will be sidelined at least four days after an MRI revealed inflammation in his back, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.
Encarnacion reportedly injured the back during batting practice over the weekend. "I have time to get ready, there's lots of time before the season starts,” Encarnacion said, according to the Toronto Star. “I’m resting now.”
Encarnaction is entering his seventh season with Toronto. Over 128 games last season, the 32-year-old recorded a .268 batting average with 34 home runs and 98 RBIs.
The Blue Jays open the regular season April 6 against the New York Yankees.
