The Salem Red Sox, the advanced Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will wear special hats honoring victims of the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech.

Salem will wear the hats against the Carolina Mudcats in the team’s season opener on Thursday night.

The hats will honor the victims of deadliest mass shooting in U.S history when Seung-Hui Cho opened fire on Virginia Tech's campus in the early morning hours of April 16, 2007. Thirty-two people were killed and 17 others were injured before Cho committed suicide.

The hats will have Virginia Tech’s maroon and orange colors and the date 4-16-07 stitched on the side.
