DETROIT (AP) David Price had to battle both the New York Yankees and the swirling snow in the first inning Wednesday.
Wearing short sleeves on a 38-degree night in Detroit, Price allowed six runs in the top of the first, while snow flurries blew around him. Snow in April isn't that out of the ordinary in Detroit, but the intensity of it increased briefly in the first, making for an unusual spectacle as Price labored on the mound.
Price hit Jacoby Ellsbury in the chest to start the inning - the New York leadoff hitter fell to the ground in pain before taking his base. Price went on to allow five hits and two walks, throwing 51 pitches.
Price's ERA jumped from 0.40 to 2.70 in the inning.
