Jacob deGrom and the surprising New York Mets try to set a franchise record with their 12th straight victory - they can do it with a win at Yankee Stadium in the Subway Series opener. Coming off a 10-0 homestand, the Mets have the top mark in the majors at 13-3. Last season's NL Rookie of the Year, deGrom has pitched 18 1-3 straight shutout innings. Michael Pineda starts for the Yankees, who have won six of seven.
TRYING AGAIN
Jon Lester makes his fourth start for the Cubs, still looking for his first win with them. The prize pitcher in the free agent market last winter, the lefty is 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA going into the game at Cincinnati.
SWEET START
AL ERA leader Shane Greene (3-0, 0.39) starts at Comerica Park when Detroit hosts Cleveland. The Tigers got him from the Yankees in a three-team trade that included Arizona during the offseason.
GO TIME
Heavily favored to take the NL East this year, Washington hopes to get in a winning grove when it starts a 10-game road trip at Miami. Jordan Zimmermann starts for the Nationals, aiming to lower his 6.14 ERA.
ON THE MEND
Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis is expected to OK to play at San Diego. He's been out since getting pulled from a game Wednesday against the Giants when a pitch hit a batter, hit Ellis' mask and deflected down to bruise his right hand.
NEW HOME
Marlins ace Jose Fernandez will become a U.S. citizen at a ceremony in Miami. The Cuban pitcher is out until midseason while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
