Blue Jays send Dalton Pompey, Andrew Albers to Triple-A

CLEVELAND (AP) The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned rookie outfielder Dalton Pompey and pitcher Andrew Albers to Triple-A Buffalo.

Pompey opened the season as Toronto's center fielder, but batted .183 and struck out 22 times in 83 at-bats. The 22-year-old switch hitter stole two bases.

Albers, whose contract was purchased from Buffalo before Friday's game, gave up a three-run homer to Brett Hayes in the fifth inning of a 9-4 loss to Cleveland. The left-hander pitched 2 2-3 innings.

The Blue Jays purchased the contracts of outfielder Ezequiel Carrera and right-hander Scott Copeland from Buffalo.

Carrera, who hit .325 at Buffalo, batted ninth and played right field Saturday. He has played for Cleveland, Philadelphia and Detroit over four seasons.

Copeland was 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA in four starts for Buffalo. The Blue Jays will use the right-hander in the bullpen, which has been overworked because of short outings by Daniel Norris and Mark Buehrle the past two games.
