Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto was suspended one game by MLB for making contact with an umpire, the league announced Friday.

Votto was set to serve his suspension during Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox, but the game was postponed due to rain.

The first baseman was also fined an undisclosed amount. The incident occurred after Votto struck out to end the third inning during the Reds' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. After throwing his bat and helmet to the ground, he said something and was ejected.

Votto then bumped chests with umpire Chris Conroy and had to be restrained by Cincinnati manager Bryan Price.
