NEW YORK (AP) Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez has been hit in the helmet by a pitch and left a game against the New York Mets.

Gomez was beaned by a 96 mph fastball from rookie Noah Syndergaard in the sixth inning Sunday.

Gomez stayed down in the dirt for a few seconds before being helped into a sitting position by two Milwaukee trainers. Mets trainer Ray Ramirez, who has known Gomez since the two-time All-Star made his big league debut with New York in 2007, also walked to the plate area.

Syndergaard, in his second major league game, clapped into his glove as Gomez sat up.

Gomez walked off on the field with the trainers at his side and was replaced by pinch runner Gerardo Parra.
