The Toronto Blue Jays placed starting second baseman Devon Travis on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation, the team announced.

The move is retroactive to May 17.

In a corresponding roster move, the team selected the contract of infielder Munenori Kawasaki from Triple A Buffalo.

Kawasaki’s promotion gives the team an extra infielder as it waits for shortstop Jose Reyes to return. Reyes has missed the last three weeks recovering from a cracked left rib.

Travis was injured in a game on April 30 against the Cleveland Indians when he was hit in the left collarbone by a ground ball that took a bad hop.

He missed one game, then played in 14 straight before missing a game against the Houston Astros last week and the entire four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels.

"It's frustrating," Thomas said, according to MLB.com. "I'm hoping it's getter better day by day."

Thomas is batting .271 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs this season for the Blue Jays (19-24), who are in last place in the American League East.
