Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager made a running play in foul territory to catch a Carlos Beltran fly ball - and inadvertently protect a small child in the process.

With two out in the top of the second inning, Beltran skied a Felix Hernandez pitch down the third base line directly toward a woman in the front row wearing a Yankees jersey and a small child to her left.

A slow-motion replay showed that the child appeared to be about half a foot outside of the line of danger, but more importantly, completely unprotected and unaware of the impending ball.

Beyond the all-star third baseman's catch, it was a weird night for foul balls at Safeco Field.

In the fifth inning, Mariners catcher Mike Zunino hit a foul ball so high it clanged off one of stadium's roof trusses, according to the Associated Press
