Giants' Heston has no-hit bid vs Mets through 6 innings

NEW YORK (AP) San Francisco Giants pitcher Chris Heston has held the New York Mets hitless through eight innings.

The 27-year-old rookie right-hander had allowed just two baserunners Tuesday night, hitting Ruben Tejada and Lucas Duda with pitches in the fourth inning during a span of three pitches.

Heston had struck out eight and allowed two balls into the outfield. Brandon Crawford made a strong throw from deep shortstop to get Eric Campbell for the final out of the eighth.

Heston threw 63 of 96 pitches for strikes. He also hit a two-run single in the fourth off Noah Syndergaard for his first big league RBIs. Angel Pagan put the Giants ahead with an RBI groundout in the first, and Matt Duffy homered in the sixth.

San Francisco extended its lead to 5-0 when Joe Panik hit a leadoff homer in the seventh.
