Dodgers send reliever Yimi Garcia to Triple-A

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers sent reliever Yimi Garcia to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday to get in extra work around the All-Star break.

Garcia was sent down two days after making his first start since 2011 when he was in the minors. He replaced Carlos Frias, who went on the disabled list last week, in the rotation against Philadelphia, and gave up two runs and four hits in two innings.

Manager Don Mattingly said the move is to give Garcia ''a breather'' since he has made a team-high 40 appearances and allow him time to work on his fastball command. The 24-year-old right-hander is 3-2 with a 4.10 ERA while striking out 53 in 37 1/3 innings.

After opening the season by allowing one run in his first 14 appearances, Garcia has posted a 6.26 ERA in his last 26 games since May 11.

The All-Star break begins Monday. The Dodgers resume play on July 17, when they open a 10-game road trip in Washington.

The Dodgers selected the contract of right-handed reliever Chin-hui Tsao from Triple-A and recalled right-hander Josh Ravin from Oklahoma City. They optioned left-hander Ian Thomas to Triple-A along with Garcia, and designated left-hander Eric Surkamp for assignment.
