CINCINNATI (AP) With several All-Stars pitching Sunday and other players nursing injuries, the rosters for the Mid-Summer Classic went through some changes before Tuesday's game in Cincinnati.
A look at who is in and who is out:
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and outfielder Brett Gardner, Minnesota second baseman Brian Dozier, Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant and Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki previously filled spots of injured players.
They replaced Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera, Kansas City outfielder Alex Gordon, Toronto outfielder Jose Bautista, and Miami outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and second baseman Dee Gordon.
Here are Sunday's changes:
IN: LHP Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers; OUT: RHP Max Scherzer, Nationals
Scherzer started Sunday for Washington. Kershaw, the reigning NL MVP and Cy Young Award winner, is 6-6 but has a 2.85 ERA. He is an All-Star for the fifth straight year.
''He's had a good half. You start there, but you look at also who Clayton is and his success and the star factor,'' NL manager Bruce Bochy said. ''So another great arm to help us in the All-Star Game. I'm happy for Clayton, knowing who he is.''
IN: LHP Hector Santiago, Angels; OUT: RHP Sonny Gray, Athletics
Gray pitched a two-hitter on Sunday to improve to 10-3 for Oakland, and he elected not to be active, the commissioner's office said.
Santiago is a first-time All-Star after going 6-4 with a 2.33 ERA.
IN OF Ryan Braun, Brewers; OUT: OF Matt Holliday, Cardinals.
Holliday has been out for more than a month with a quadriceps injury, and St. Louis did not activate him from the disabled list this weekend, making him ineligible for the All-Star Game.
Because Holliday was elected a starter by fan voting, Los Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Joc Pederson will move into the starting lineup as a result of his standing on the NL player ballot.
Braun becomes a six-time All-Star. He entered Sunday batting .272 with 15 home runs, 55 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
