Reds recall RHP Diaz from minors; option RHP Contreras

CINCINNATI (AP) The Reds have recalled right-handed pitcher Jumbo Diaz from Triple-A Louisville and optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Contreras.

A day earlier, the Reds sent RHP Donovan Hand outright to Louisville. Hand was designated for assignment on Monday to make room on the roster for catcher Donn Roach, who'd been claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs and optioned to Louisville.

Diaz opened the season with Cincinnati and was 2-1 with a 6.65 earned-run average in 25 relief appearances before being optioned to Louisville. Contreras, who had 6.08 ERA in 12 relief appearances, was sent to Louisville.
