LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed second baseman Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left hamstring and recalled infielder Jose Peraza from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kendrick, in his first season with the Dodgers after nine years with the Angels, is hitting .296 with nine homers and 49 RBIs in 105 games this season. He was injured while beating out an infield single in the fifth inning of the Dodgers' 13-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday night.

''I don't know how bad the MRI is at this point, but we know he's bad enough to put him on the DL,'' manager Don Mattingly said before Monday night's home game with the Arizona Diamondbacks. ''We just don't know how severe it is, and hamstrings are never going to be three or four days. They're going to be a couple of weeks at least, and then we'll see where we're at.

''It's a big loss for us, but we've got some guys who are capable and are going to get opportunities. So we look forward to it,'' Mattingly added.

Peraza made his major league debut Monday night, starting at second base and batting second in the opener of the three-game series with Washington.

The 21-year-old was acquired from Atlanta as part of an eight-player trade on July 30. In 106 combined games with Oklahoma City and the Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett club, Peraza batted .302 with 27 stolen bases, four homers and 41 RBIs.
