Rockies cut Stubbs, bring up utility man McBride from minors

NEW YORK (AP) The Colorado Rockies have cut outfielder Drew Stubbs and called up utility player Matt McBride from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Stubbs hit .216 with five homers and 10 RBIs in 51 games for Colorado this season. He struck out 50 times in 102 at-bats.

The last-place Rockies want to take another look at the 30-year-old McBride, a Pacific Coast League All-Star this year. He was hitting .328 with 12 homers, 30 doubles and 49 RBIs for Albuquerque.

McBride spent time with the Rockies in 2012 and 2014. He has appeared in 13 major league games at first base, 15 in right field and two in left. He was obtained from Cleveland in a trade for pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez on July 30, 2011.

Colorado selected McBride's contract before Wednesday night's game against the New York Mets and designated Stubbs for assignment. The team has 10 days to trade, release or send Stubbs outright to the minors.
