Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Smyly is set to make his first start since May 5 after rehabbing a torn labrum.

Smyly, 26, opted to rehabilitate the injury through rest rather than undergo season-ending surgery and was placed on the 60-day DL. He threw a bullpen session Friday and will start Sunday against the Texas Rangers.

Smyly battled tendinitis early in the season and has made just three starts in 2015, with a 0-1 record, 2.70 ERA and 0.78 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in those games. The left-hander was a central part of Tampa Bay's mid-season trade with Detroit in 2014 that sent David Price to the Tigers.

The Rays are 58-58, 6.5 games out of first in the AL East and two games behind the Angels for the final wild-card spot.
