Fan dies after fall from Turner Field upper deck during Braves game
A fan has died after falling from the Turner Field upper deck during the seventh inning of Saturday's Braves-Yankees game.
The Atlanta police told reporters Saturday night that the fan, named Greg Murrey, had died upon arrival at Grady Memorial Hospital from his injuries. The Braves confirmed the news in a statement.
The Braves announced Murrey was immediately treated by paramedics and taken from the stadium to a local hospital. He landed on the concrete in the 200 level behind home plate, and medical personnel performed CPR before placing him on a stretcher and exiting.
Ryan Hatch of the Star-Ledger reported the man was “screaming at a Yankees player” before falling over the railing. According to fans in the vicinity, Murrey may have been drunk. He reportedly fell and “bounced off a railing” before hitting another one.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Murrey's death is the third fatal fall suffered by fans at Turner Field in the past seven years, with deaths occurring in 2013 and 2008. The 2013 death was ruled a suicide after a fan leapt to his death from a stadium railing to the parking lot below. In 2008, a fan fell an estimated four levels inside the stadium and struck a railing on the lower level.
On Sunday, the Braves released a statement, confirming Murrey's identity.
