The St. Louis Cardinals activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 60-day disabled list.
Adams sustained a right quadriceps tear in May and underwent surgery, with the recovery expected to take three to four months. Adams was batting .243 with four home runs and 20 RBIs before the injury.
St. Louis has the best record in baseball at 87–51, with the Cardinals currently holding a 4 1/2-game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates for first place in the NL Central.
After finishing a series with the Cubs on Wednesday, St. Louis will head to Cincinnati for a four-game series.
