The Los Angeles Dodgers have reinstated pitcher Carlos Frias from the 60-day disabled list and designated Mat Latos for assignment, the team announced Thursday.

The Dodgers placed Frias on the DL in early July after he struggled with lower back tightness in three consecutive starts. He was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 14 to make room on the 40-man roster.

Frias made the transition to starting pitcher after mainly being used in a relief role in 2014, his first season in Los Angeles. He has posted a 5–5 record and 4.39 ERA in 12 starts this season.

The Dodgers acquired Latos in part of a 13-player trade with the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins at the end of July. He was expected to fill in as the Dodgers No. 3 starter, but has struggled in Los Angeles, going 0–3 in five starts with a 6.66 ERA. He had recently been demoted to a bullpen role.

The Dodgers have been in need of additional starting pitching much of the season, after Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy went down with season-ending injuries early.
