Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval has pneumonia and it is unclear whether he will miss the remainder of the season, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.

Sandoval did not play in the Red Sox series against the Tampa Bay Rays after experiencing lightheadedness while rounding the bases of Sunday's 4–3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays

Sandoval is hitting .245 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs in his first year with the Red Sox. Sandoval signed a five-year, $95 million free agent contract over the offseason. He is hitting .210 with three home runs and 13 doubles for the second half of the season.

Sandoval will be reevaluated on Saturday before the Red Sox determine whether or not to bring him back for the team's four-game series against the New York Yankees next week.
