ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Miami right fielder Giancarlo Stanton has been shut down for the rest of the season due to a wrist injury.

Marlins manager Dan Jennings made the announcement before Tuesday night's game at Tampa Bay.

Stanton has been sidelined since June 26 with a broken left wrist. He is expected to be ready for spring training next year.

''It will be a good offseason, he'll be back ready,'' Jennings said. ''There's no thought of, that hey perhaps he won't be ready or any of that. It's just going to take a little longer than was originally thought.''

Stanton was hitting .265 with 27 homers and 67 RBIs in 74 games before the season-ending injury.

''He gave his best effort trying to get back,'' Jennings said. ''He wanted to be out playing. He just didn't have a comfort level in that hand. The scar tissue had not completely released, and so therefore there was a strength element only that he was uncomfortable with.''
