Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia discusses alcohol rehab
Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia discussed his stay in rehab for his alcoholism on Good Morning America, in an episode that airs Friday night.
Sabathia sat down with Robin Roberts to discuss his trip to rehabilitation, which coincided with the Yankees’ brief playoff run. He said he had “no other option...but to get help.” He participated in the interview along with his wife, Amber.
Sabathia left the team the night before the AL wild-card game against the Houston Astros, which the Yankees lost 3–0, eliminating them from contention.
“Like I said, I know it was a bad time of the season, but I woke up on that Sunday morning in Baltimore and there was no other option for me but to get help,” Sabathia said. He has completed his stay in rehab and has begun looking ahead to next season.
“I understand where, you know, fans would be upset and people would not understand,” he added. “If it was my knee or if it was anything else, then people wouldn’t have a problem with it,” Sabathia added.
Sabathia, 35, compiled a 6–10 record and 4.73 ERA with 137 strikeouts in 167 1/3 innings last season.
