Angels sign veteran infielder Cliff Pennington to two-year deal
The Angels have signed veteran infielder Cliff Pennington to a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal is worth a total of $3.75 million in salary, plus incentives, MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez reports.
Pennington, 31, is primarily a middle infielder but can also play third base and has limited experience in leftfield. He began the 2015 season with the Diamondbacks and was acquired in a waiver trade by the Blue Jays on Aug. 8.
Pennington batted .210 in 105 games this season, but only hit .160 in 33 games since being traded. He saw limited action with Toronto in the playoffs, making two plate appearances in four games. He made a pitching appearance during Toronto’s blowout loss in Game 4 of the ALCS, becoming the first position player to pitch in a postseason game.

New Angels general manager Billy Eppler praised Pennington’s defensive ability.
