The Toronto Blue Jays named Ross Atkins as their new general manager, the team announced on Thursday.

Atkins, who was previously the vice president of player personnel for the Cleveland Indians, will replace Tony LaCava in the position. LaCava had been serving as Toronto’s interim general manager since Alex Anthopoulos rejected a contract extension in October.

LaCava, who has been with Toronto’s front office since 2002, will reportedly remain with the team.

Atkins, 42, will become the fifth general manager in team history. He previously worked for new Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro for 15 seasons in the Indians’ organization.
