Braves acquire right-hander Jose Ramirez from Mariners

ATLANTA (AP) The Braves have added bullpen depth by acquiring hard-throwing right-hander Jose Ramirez from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named and/or cash.

The 25-year-old was 1-0 with a 12.91 ERA in eight games with Seattle and the New York Yankees in 2015. A native of the Dominican Republic, was acquired by Seattle on July 30 for infielder Dustin Ackley. Ramirez was 4-1 with 10 saves and a 4.16 ERA in 41 games with Triple-A Tacoma.

The Braves also finalized a $1.25 million, one-year contract with infielder Gordon Beckham, an Atlanta native and former University of Georgia standout.

Beckham has played third base, shortstop and second base in his eight-year career, almost all with the Chicago White Sox. The 29-year-old Beckham, a .242 career hitter, hit only .209 with six homers and 20 RBIs with Chicago in 2015.

Beckham could compete with Adonis Garcia at third base, with Hector Olivera moving to left field.
