Dick Scott succeeds Bob Geren as New York Mets' bench coach

NEW YORK (AP) Dick Scott is succeeding Bob Geren as the New York Mets' bench coach.

The Mets announced Scott's new assignment Wednesday. He was the Mets' minor league field coordinator from 2011-12 and had been the team's director of player development since then.

Scott spent 10 seasons in the minor leagues and played in three games with Oakland in 1989. He earned manager of the year honors with Scottdsale in the Arizona League (1991), Southern Oregon in the Northwest League (1993) and Modesto in the California League (1994).

Now 53, Scott was Toronto's director of player development from 2001-09 and Houston's minor league field coordinator in 2010.

Geren spent the past four seasons as the Mets' bench coach and left to become bench coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
