We’re a week into the new year and we still have a lack of clarity surrounding several big-name free agents in Major League Baseball. Rosters should begin to shape up as the days dwindle down in advance of Spring Training, but until then, check out the latest MLB rumors and news below.

• The San Francisco Giants announced they have signed outfielder Denard Span to a three-year deal.

• The Colorado Rockies are now strongly pursuing free-agent outfielder Gerardo Parra, reports CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.

• Trade talks between the Miami Marlins to the Texas Rangers about outfielder Marcell Ozuna seem dead as the two sides have made no significant progress over the past month, reports Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

• The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda to an eight-year deal, the team announced.

• Free-agent pitcher Ryan Cook has signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Mariners, the team announced.
