AP source: Parra, Rockies agree to $27.5M, 3-year deal

DENVER (AP) The Colorado Rockies added another left-handed hitter to an already crowded outfield by agreeing with Gerardo Parra on a three-year, $27.5 million deal.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the deal Tuesday to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it has yet to be announced by the team. The person says Colorado holds a club option for a fourth year at $12 million, but can buy out Parra for $1.5 million.

On his Instagram page, Parra said he was ''super excited to join the Rockies!'' He also posted a picture with Carlos Gonzalez as both wore their Venezuelan uniforms.

And now they're partnered again - for the moment, anyway.

There's a log jam of left-handed bats in the outfield, with Parra joining the company of Gonzalez, Corey Dickerson and Charlie Blackmon. It very well could make someone expendable before spring training rolls around next month.

Parra hit .291 with 14 homers and 51 RBIs last season for Milwaukee and Baltimore, which obtained him in a deal at the trade deadline. The 28-year-old Parra plays all three outfield positions and is a two-time Gold Glove winner.

His first big-league season was with Arizona in 2009. He was dealt by the Diamondbacks to the Brewers on July 31, 2014, and traded again to the Orioles a year later.

Parra is a lifetime .277 hitter with 56 homers and 311 RBIs.

This was the second big bat the Rockies have added over the offseason. They also signed infielder Mark Reynolds to a $2.6 million, one-year contract. He can play outfield in a pinch.

Other than that, the Rockies have spent most of the offseason shoring up their bullpen. They signed a pair of former closers to two-year contracts, guaranteeing Jason Motte $10 million and Chad Qualls $6 million.

In addition, they agreed on a $10.4 million, three-year contract with right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino, who underwent Tommy John surgery last May and hopes to be back sometime around the All-Star break.
