Agent Scott Boras expressed optimism on Monday that veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre will sign a contract extension with the Texas Rangers, according to Fox Sports’ JP Morosi. Beltre, 36, is entering the final year of a five-year, $80 million deal he signed with the team in 2011.

“I think Adrian already had a discussion with them, in which he expressed a desire to stay,” Boras told Fox Sports. “They want him there, and we're going to work on that.”

Beltre hit .287 in 143 games last year with 18 home runs and 83 RBIs and finished seventh in the American League MVP voting; he also hit his 400th career home run. Over his 17-year career, Beltre has won four Gold Gloves and been named to the All-Star team four times.
