Manny Parra agrees to minor league contract with Cubs

MESA, Ariz. (AP) The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with former Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds pitcher Manny Parra.

Parra would get a $520,000, one-year contract if added to the 40-man roster and would have the chance to earn $900,000 in performance bonuses and $1.28 million in roster bonuses.

General manager Jed Hoyer confirmed the move on Monday, saying the Cubs ''have always thought highly'' of Parra.

The 33-year-old left-hander spent the past three seasons with Cincinnati after playing his first five in Milwaukee. He has pitched out of the bullpen the past four years.

Parra was 1-2 with a 3.90 ERA in 40 appearances for the Reds last season. He is 29-41 with a 4.90 ERA in 74 starts and 28 relief appearances in his big league career.

He would get $75,000 each for 25, 30, 35 and 40 games pitched, and $150,000 apiece for 45, 50, 55 and 60. He would earn $205,000 for 30, 60, 90 and 120 days on the active roster, and $230,000 apiece for 150 and 180.
