Miami Marlins pitcher Carter Capps will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, the team announced

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews will be conducting the surgery.

According to the Marlins’ website, Capps, 25, began experiencing pain in his right elbow early in spring training and met with Andrews on Monday to have the injury examined.

Marlins president of baseball operations Mike Hill confirmed that Capps sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament.  

Capps has played in 118 games since making his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2012. Last season, he made 30 appearances in relief for the Marlins, posting a 1.16 ERA.
