Adrian Gonzalez to play for Mexico in WBC qualifying

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will leave spring training to play for Mexico in qualifying for next year's World Baseball Classic and Philadelphia catcher Carlos Ruiz will play for Panama.

Washington left-hander Oliver Perez also will play for Mexico, Major League Baseball said Friday.

Mexico, Nicaragua, Germany and the Czech Republic will play in Mexicali, Mexico, and Panama, Colombia, Spain and France will play in Panama City, Panama. Games are scheduled for March 17-20, and one qualifier will emerge from each group.

Edgar Gonzalez - Adrian's brother - will manage Mexico. Other managers include Carlos Lee (Panama), Eric Gagne (France), Marvin Benard (Nicaragua), Manny Crespo (Spain), Mike Griffin (Czech Republic), Garth Iorg (Germany) and Luis Urueta (Colombia).
