PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) The Los Angeles Dodgers scratched starting pitcher Alex Wood before a split-squad game Saturday night against the Seattle Mariners because of tightness in his left forearm.

Contending for the fifth spot in the Dodgers' starting rotation, Wood was set to make his second spring start. Carlos Frias was scheduled to start in his place.

Against Cleveland on Monday, Wood gave up five runs on four hits with two strikeouts. He went 5-6 with a 4.55 ERA as a starter for the Dodgers last season after they acquired him from Atlanta on July 30.

The Dodgers already have lost starter Brett Anderson for three-to-five months. He had back surgery on March 3.

Starters Hyun-jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy are working their way back from surgery. Neither is expected to be ready for the start of the season. Ryu had shoulder surgery last year, and McCarthy had Tommy John surgery.
