Dodgers pitcher Jamey Wright retires at 41

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jamey Wright has announced his retirement after 19 seasons in the majors.

The 41-year-old Wright said Monday that he was done. The right-hander had signed a minor league contract on Feb. 26 after sitting out last season.

Wright pitched eight times this spring for the Dodgers and had a 12.15 ERA. He said he knew two weeks ago that his playing days were over.

''The focus just wasn't there,'' Wright said.

Wright was cut by Texas in spring training last March. He spent the offseason playing catch with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw and decided to give it one more try.

Wright pitched for 10 different teams in the majors. He was 97-130 with a 4.81 ERA overall. His last season in the majors was 2014, when he was 5-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 61 games for the Dodgers.
