Orioles starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder tendonitis, the team announced Saturday.

Gallardo is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Sunday, and left the team’s road trip to fly back to Baltimore. It is unclear how long Gallardo will be out.

“Nobody really knows. You have to put something on the sheet. The team doctor for [the Royals] saw him,” manager Buck Showalter said. “Until we get the MRI and Dr. Jacobs sees it, you don't know exactly what it is.

“I don't think anybody knows exactly what is causing the symptoms he has. It wasn't like he was feeling acute pain or anything. There was general weakness there.”

Braves pitching prospect Aaron Blair will make debut on Sunday

Gallardo has been replaced in the lineup by Brian Matusz, who was reinstated off the DL on Saturday.

Gallardo is 1–1 with a 7.00 ERA in four starts this season.
